Overview

The easiest way to start using Seeks is to use a public node. A public node is an instance of Seeks which has been made available to the general public. Trusted public nodes allow a somewhat anonymous search and can be customized. See how to setup your own public web interface to Seeks. Notes

  • Most nodes follow the opensearch specification. This allows you to add your favorite public node to the main list of search engines.
  • To do so using Firefox, while on a Seeks websearch page, simply open the list of search engines, you should see a Seeks search 'plugin' ready to be added.
  • All nodes >= 0.2 support language commands.
  • If a link to a public node is surrounded as follows : <div class='monitor contact@kafe-in.net'>http://seeks.kafe-in.net/</div> it will be monitored 24/7 by a nagios daemon. If the node goes down, an alert will be sent to the email address listed at the end of the class attribute. Note that the email address must follow the word monitor after exactly one space or it will be ignored. This information is parsed by the monitor.seeks-project.info:/root/nagios-seeks-update.sh script.
